What are the Steps Involved in Drain Pipe Relining

Drain pipe relining is a process that involves repairing and replacing backed up, leaking, cracked, or damaged drain pipes.

It applies a “no dig” trenchless process for purposes of avoiding land movement or pavement destruction that may lead to the digging up of trees.

The process also involves reinforcing the old pipe with a new epoxy-saturated one.

This inflates the tubing and cures it into place using hot air, steam or even Bluelight LED technology.

The result is a new seal lining the interior walls of existing pipes, allowing broken pipes to be replaced with ones that have the potential to last for several decades. Here’s how the process of drain pipe relining is done.

The Process of Drain Pipe Relining

The drain pipe can be made of a wide range of piping materials, including concrete, plastic and PVC, cast iron, and clay among others.  The process of trenchless pipe lining involves various steps as outlined below.

  1. Camera inspection to help confirm the position and severity of cracks within compromised pipes
  2. Cleaning existing drain pipes by removing debris as well as other blockages that compromise the integrity of the drainage system as a whole
  3. Measurement of existing pipes. This process involves measuring existing pipes to determine the size of pipes that needs to be inserted to help reinforce or strengthen the existing compromised pipes.
  4. Preparing for tube replacement. Typically, the replacement tubing pipe is made of polyester, fibreglass or similar materials, but they can also be made of several other different materials depending on a wide range of factors.
  5. Epoxy Impregnation and inversion tubing. The next step involves saturating or impregnating the tube piping with an epoxy-resin and then flipping or inverting inside-out with an advanced inverter drum to allow the epoxy-resin to be on the tubing’s outside so that it can be on the outside of the existing pipe’s walls.
  6. Inserting tubing into the compromised pipes. Once you are through with the previous steps, you are now ready to slide the tubing throughout the walls so that the pipe is in place and the piping system is ready for curing. This creates a strong piping system and enhances the durability of the pipe so that the owner or user can continue to enjoy the convenience offered by a properly functioning pipe.
  7. Curing tubing is also a crucial step in the entire process as this is what is responsible for creating the new seal. Some of the popular technologies that have been used include hot air, steam curing, and even Bluelight LED curing, where all the moisture is taken out of the pipes to allow them to solidify and become strong.

So, this process can be very taxing and therefore requires a professional to perform.

If done professionally, service to drain pipes can be fully restored once the plumber has properly performed the curing process.

You should always have a professional plumber’s contact to reach them when you need their service.
